Martina Stella ,NY20+

Martina Stella is a multimedia artist. Graduated in photography and contemporary art, she specializes in Architecture and scenographies at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Paris Belleville. Her theoretical research focuses on the role of video mapping as a symbolic form, questioning projection in exhibition and public spaces. For her, research and creation are intrinsically linked to technical knowledge, which she acquired while working as an audiovisual technician at the Atelier des Lumières. Her artistic practice focuses on writing as a visual arts tool, questioning the relationships between text, image, and space established by new technologies and digital scenographic devices. Editor of Revue AS and the Video Mapping European Center, she teaches in the "Création Numérique" master's program at Sorbonne Paris Nord University.

Keypoints

Video mapping is a projection technique of adapting video and images to three-dimensional objects. Originating in the cultural industry in the late 1960s, it has developed through VJ-ing, ephemeral set design, festivals in public spaces, and the work of some iconic artists. Today, thanks to the development of technology, markets, and dedicated programs, it is increasingly present in permanent installations and immersive art spaces. What if we thought of "non-immersive" mapping as a tool for contemporary artists and museums? What possibilities would this technique open up in the field of digital arts and exhibition scenography? The conference will be an opportunity to discuss these and other questions, seeking to relocate this complex practice at the intersection of the physical and digital, actual and virtual, light and space.
